10.1 Access and Correction under the Privacy Act

You have the right to request access to personal information that we hold about you. You can also request corrections if you believe the information is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, or misleading. We will respond to these requests within 30 days and will not charge fees for access or correction requests.

10.2 Access, Amendment, or Annotation under the FOI Act

You may also request access, amendment, or annotation of your personal information under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). We respond to these requests in accordance with the FOI Act, and you may seek an internal review or request the Australian Information Commissioner to review our decision.

 


 

11. Complaints

If you have concerns about how we handle your personal information or believe we have breached the Privacy Act or the APPs, you can lodge a complaint in writing. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate the complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

14. Website Usage and Data Handling

14.1 Comments

When you leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, your IP address, and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

14.2 Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

14.4 Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on our site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

14.5 Data Retention

  • Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
  • User Profiles: For users that register on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
