How to Obtain Recognition – Overview

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that allows you to gain recognition for skills and knowledge you have already acquired through previous training, work experience, or life experiences. To obtain recognition:

  • Identify Relevant Skills: Determine which skills or knowledge areas align with the units of competency in the course.
  • Submit your evidence: Provide evidence of your prior learning through any RPL eligible program by uploading your evidence to each section completely.
  • Confirm your enrolment: By paying the associated fee’s.
  • Assessment: An assessor will review your evidence and may conduct further assessments if necessary to confirm your competencies.
  • Outcome: You will receive feedback on your application, and if successful, you will be credited for the relevant competencies if not you will recieve a Gap Training Required Notice.
  • Gap training: Complete any gap training that is identified.
  • Outcome: At this stage you will be advised if any re-attempt is required for the Gap Training or if you have completed the program successfully. 

 


Credit Transfer for Previously Completed Studies

Credit Transfer acknowledges the completion of units from other recognized training programs. It allows you to transfer credit for identical or equivalent units of competency you have previously completed:

  • Eligibility: You must provide official transcripts or Statements of Attainment from your previous institution. 
  • Equivalent Units: The units you wish to transfer must match or be equivalent to those in your current course.
  • Application: Complete the Credit Transfer application form available on the Eden LMS portal and submit it with your official documents.

 


Applying for Credit Transfer

To apply for credit transfer:

  • Enrol: Complete the associated enrolment as per our enrolment process.
  • Gather Documentation: Collect official transcripts, Statements of Attainment, or other relevant certifications.
  • Complete the Form: Fill out the Credit Transfer application form on the Eden LMS portal.
  • Submit Application: Upload the form and your documents to the designated area on the portal or submit them to the student support team.
  • Review Process: The credit transfer application will be reviewed by our academic team to verify eligibility and equivalency.
  • Outcome: You will be notified of the decision and the credits applied to your current course of study.

 


Credit Transfer Pathways

Credit Transfer pathways include:

  • Nationally Recognized Qualifications: Units completed as part of another AQF-accredited qualification.
  • Internal articulation pathways: Selected Porfessional Certificates on Eden LMS allow for direct credit to Nationally Recognised Units of Competence.

 


Applying for RPL

To apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

  • Pre-Assessment Interview: Arrange an interview with an Eden LMS assessor to discuss your background and potential evidence. This is only offered on skillsets or full qualifications that identified as RPL Eligible.
  • Complete the RPL Application: Fill out the RPL application form available on the Eden LMS portal.
  • Submit Evidence: Provide comprehensive evidence of your prior learning, such as work samples, testimonials, and other documentation.
  • Assessment: The assessor will review your evidence and may require additional information or a practical demonstration.
  • Outcome: You will receive feedback on your application, and if successful, you will be credited for the relevant competencies if not you will recieve a Gap Training Required Notice.
  • Gap training: Complete any gap training that is identified.
  • Outcome: At this stage you will be advised if any re-attempt is required for the Gap Training or if you have completed the program successfully.

 


How to Apply for RPL

The steps to apply for RPL include:

  1. Initial Consultation: Speak with an Eden LMS advisor to determine if RPL is suitable for you.
  2. Documentation: Collect and organize evidence that demonstrates your competency.
  3. Application Submission: Complete and submit the RPL application form with supporting documents.
  4. Assessment: Participate in any required assessments or interviews to validate your competencies.
  5. Feedback: Receive feedback on your RPL application and, if successful, obtain recognition for the relevant units.

 


Evidence Requirements for RPL

For your RPL application, evidence must be:

  • Valid: Clearly related to the competencies being claimed.
  • Sufficient: Enough evidence to demonstrate competency across all areas.
  • Authentic: Verified as your own work or experience.
  • Current: Relevant to current standards and practices within the industry.

Acceptable evidence includes:

  • Work Samples: Examples of your work relevant to the units of competency.
  • Third-Party Reports: Testimonies from employers or supervisors.
  • Certificates: Copies of previous qualifications and training.
  • Demonstrations: Videos or in-person demonstrations of your skills.

 


Fees with RPL

Applying for RPL may incur fees, which cover:

  • Eden Unlimited Subcription: You must hold a active Eden Unlimited Annual Subscription to access RPL Programs.
  • Pay the Enrolment Fee to activate your RPL Application: This fee ranges from $750-$1500(GST Exempt) and covers student support costs associated with these types of programs.
  • Assessment Costs: Is the balance of fees associated with the review and assessment of your evidence.
  • Processing Fees: Administrative costs for handling your application are included in your balance fee’s. 
  • Additional Assessments: Costs for any additional assessments required to verify your skills and competence. Generally these are incuded in your students fee’s unless 3 or more assessment attempts are required.

Appeal for a Review of RPL Results

If you wish to appeal a decision on your RPL assessment you have the following options:

  • Initial Review: Discuss the outcome with the assessor to understand the decision.
  • Formal Appeal: If unresolved, submit a formal appeal using the RPL Appeal Form available on the Eden LMS portal.
  • Review Process: The appeal will be reviewed by a senior assessor or academic committee.
  • Outcome: You will receive a written response detailing the outcome of the appeal.

 


Non-Accredited Courses

Non-accredited courses offered by Eden LMS provide valuable skills and knowledge but do not result in formal qualifications unless the student pursuses our internal articulation arrangement. These courses offer:

  • Skill Enhancement: Focus on practical skills and personal development.
  • Industry-Relevant: Designed to meet specific industry needs without formal assessment.
  • Professional Certification: Participants may receive a certificate of completion but not an AQF qualification. These certificates certify a students knowledge only.
  • Verification of Competence: Ensures that all evidence provided for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer is thoroughly validated, confirming that the skills and knowledge claimed are authentic, current, and align with the required competencies.

 


Verification of Prior Learning (VPL) & Verification of Competence (VOC)

Verification of Prior Learning (VPL / VOC) involves:

  • Document Verification: Ensuring the authenticity of your previous qualifications and experiences.
  • Competency Mapping: Aligning prior learning with the competencies required for the VOC or equivilent SOA.
  • Validation Process: Confirming that the skills and knowledge are current and relevant.
  • Practical Performance of a Skill or Task: confirming that the skills and knowledge claimed are authentic, current, and align with the required competencies being verified.

 


 Obtaining a Certificate for Nationally Recognised Training

To obtain a certificate upon completion:

  • Complete Requirements: Fulfill all course requirements, including assessments and practical tasks.
  • Submit Final Documentation: Ensure all required documents and assessments are submitted.
  • Verification: Eden LMS will verify your completion of all necessary components.
  • Finalise your Student Fee’s: Pay all assosciated student fee’s.
  • Issuance: You will receive your certificate digitally as per Eden LMS procedures.

Certificates may include:

  • Statements of Attainment: Detailing the completed units of competency.
  • Full Qualifications: For entire qualifications completed.

 


Onshift Education’s Rights Regarding Evidence and Statutory Declarations

Eden LMS e-Learning Platform by Onshift Education (RTO: 41304) upholds the principles of fair and rigorous assessment in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015. As part of our commitment to these standards, we reserve the right to request certified copies of all evidence submitted for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer applications.

To align with the Principles of AssessmentFairness, Flexibility, Validity, and Reliability—the following protocols are observed:

  • Fairness: All applicants are treated equitably, and are provided with clear information on the requirements and processes involved in submitting evidence for RPL or Credit Transfer.
  • Flexibility: We consider a variety of evidence types to accommodate different learning backgrounds, provided they meet the required standards.
  • Validity: We ensure that the evidence accurately reflects the applicant’s competencies against the relevant standards and qualifications.
  • Reliability: Our assessment processes are consistent and ensure that evidence is evaluated to the same high standards for all applicants.

In addition to submitting certified copies of evidence, RPL applicants may be required to sign Statutory Declarations. These declarations affirm the authenticity of the evidence and its alignment with the competencies claimed. The declaration legally binds the applicant to the accuracy and truthfulness of their submissions.

Failure to provide certified copies of evidence or a signed Statutory Declaration when requested may affect the processing and outcome of your application. These requirements are essential to maintain the integrity and reliability of our assessment processes, ensuring that all recognized competencies are genuine, verifiable, and meet the highest standards of quality.
